Creating a Plate

When you create a plate in your project, you will first be prompted to enter a some basic information about your samples, which will be used to generate your plate's template and assign the blank location(s). The Create Plate button can be found at the bottom of your project's page.

Plate Name: Letters, numbers and underscores only. Name cannot exceed 20 characters. Plate names should be unique, generic names (e.g. Plate_1) will be rejected.

Number of Blanks: You may have between 1 and 5 blanks. These will serve as negative controls throughout Library production.

Number of Species: If a project has multiple species associated with it, you will be able to select how many different species you would like to include in the Plate. You can request additional Species to a project by messaging an admin.

Taxonomic SpeciesHere you can enter the distribution of each species. i.e. How many wells will contain species 1, species 2 ...

Number of samples: Each 96-well plate should have 95 samples and one blank well, though you may adjust this to accommodate up to five blanks. Partial plates are not accepted.

Once you are finished, click submit and you will be redirected to the Plate's page. From here you can view the plate's layout and generate a template for preparing your samples. You will also upload the required DNA Quality Control gel images to this page.

Once you have uploaded all required information, click submit at the bottom of the plate's page to flag the plate for review. You can continue to upload updated templates and gel images until the plate has been approved (or rejected) by a reviewer.
